Well, things are finally falling into place. I picked up the shortblock on Sat and the rebuilt head and outdrive gaskets and engine gasket kit should be here sometime this week.

I broke the short block down to check it out since it was a pull out. The cylinder walls and pistons look fine, the lifters look fine, the block visually looks great.

The crank and cam (that I can see) look fine, as does basically everything else.

Unless someone has any other opinions, I'm going to buy this gasket kit:

I would've preferred a FelPro kit, but honestly, short of the head gasket, I'd bet everything is almost identical. I'm assuming the Sierra head gasket will still be metal, correct?

Is there anything else on the motor that should be looked at? I'm thinking I'm covering all of my bases for now.

Oh yeah, the temp freeze plug looks like its been there a while. How do they come out? Looks like just a rubber plug with a bolt through it. Just pull? And the new one? Just press it in? They don't use gaskets or anything?

Ayuh,.......
Loosen the Nut if possible,.... Then Beat, Pry, or whatever it takes to remove the old 1,....
Then clean up the Hole,+ tap in the new 1.......
I usually put alittle bit of Form-a-gasket #2 on the rim of the new 1s......

Thanks - I went ahead and ordered the kit so if all goes well and I can find an alignment tool, I'm going boating on Sunday (fingers crossed)!:D

BTW: Should I also be greasing my ujoints before everything goes back in? I noticed it has grease fittings on them.
