Re: Fridge ice maker

Here is some pics of my Whirlpool Ice/water indoor unit.

dualsolenoidvalve.jpg

The line on the left goes to the water tank and then to the door, the one on the right goes to the icemaker. The stainless fitting is the supply line.

tank.jpg

This is the tank that is in the bottom of the fridge. Cold air is always on bottom. Water inltet of the tank is the fitting on the top left of the tank. Outlet is on the right side. They will freeze stopping water flow if the temp is below freezing.

Not sure if euro's model is the same because of different years has different changes. To check the solenoid, I would remove and pinch the outlet line to the water in the door (this will keep the water from draining back out). Then just a quick push on the water valve in the door. If water sprays out of the solenoid valve, then that determines the valve is okay and that there is a restriction somewhere between the water outlet of the solenoid and the door.

I'm not a professional at residential appliances, but here is a few pics of just one of my specialties. It is of a shake and sundae machine that I completely overhauled. And NO, you cannot have fries with dat!
what I was referring to as a tap in valve is where the water supply comes from in your home. The valve thet I used screws in to my kitchen cold water line to the sink.It pierces the water tubing/pipe and then becomes the valve to supply water to the ice maker hose/tubing.

Thanks for all the input. Wish the stupid thing would either work all the time or fail all the time. Mayfloat. The picture of the valve you posted looks a lot like the one I took out but different. The new one has quick insertion points which eliminate the compression fittings like the one on your pic. I am gonna wait till it craps out again before I pull it out. Plumbing to the house water is coming from a pipe that is hard wired into the main water supply after the water sofener. I am familiar with the pinch valve that charlie mentioned for I had them on the humidifiers I have attached to the furnaces I have owned. I noticed the freezer was turned up slightly higher then the dash that is the recommended setting. I turned this down to below the dash and will see if that might reduce water line freezing. Funny the water does not chill on this fridge. It is pretty much room temp out of the door. I did blast off all the dust on the evaporator coils about 2 months ago and have noticed the fridge is much colder now. Could be a line freezing. I will go with that till it fails again.

When it craps out I can hear a solinoid engaging. When it works I hear water going into the ice trays. My guess is that the water supply going in is being obstructed like charlie was saying. I took the front grill out and did not see a schematic. I will hopefully be able to get to it after I get this window finished I am installing.

Re: Fridge ice maker

Well finally figured it out. The water line goes under the floor to the edge of the house that gets real cold during the winter. Last winter was pretty mild and hence it worked most of the time. The last week has been in the teens and the water line stopped working. I re drilled the hole about a foot in through a cabinet and now it works fine. It is nice to have closure

I agree completely with Troy. If you have problems these people have parts. Cheaper than any dealer so far.

I don't know about the water problem but we have a Sears refrigerator that, when we are away for a few days, the ice cube maker quits. It freezes up. After watching the repairman, the next time it happened and ever since I have been able to thaw it in a few minutes with a hair dryer.
