Fried Regulator?

I have a 75 mariner elpto 1995 which has recently stopped producing a spark after running fine. It seems the cause of the problem was connection of the grey tacho senderwire on the accessory harness to live. I think the regulator has been fried as it fails the diode resistance tests, but the gery wire tacho tests are fine. I guess this needs replacing. I guess this unit can not be fixed? Can anyone tell me if more damage is likely to have been caused eg to the stator (will the resistance between the yellow wires tell me if this is ok?)and/or to the cdi pack. Any advice greatly appreciated.<br />Many thanks!

Re: Fried Regulator?

Just had the same problem, on a 95' Black Max, seems the regulator does not like loose connections. At any rate, mine took out one of my two CDI packs. I have dual regulators, so mine was still charging. The regulator is about $100.00, when you replace it check all connections at solinoid and battery. Mine turned out to be a CDI pack fried by the failure of one of my regulators, and I suspect you will have the same problem (In my case I lost one Bank, but you only have one bank to loose!) The CDI packs are avail. on ebay for about $60 used. Beats $200 new!

Re: Fried Regulator?

Thanks waterproof! I have since got the regulator tested and have been told its fine. The stator however, is showing an open circuit on the low charge coil......If i can get the flywheel off (which im struggling) with ill get it tested properly. I hope the cdi pack has not been fried though........
