Quick Question...pulled the mercruiser 4.3LX engine on my 1992 searay 200 BR and noticed a white silicone or rubber like substance in the holes of the front motor mounts. Don't see anything in the service manual about it when reinstalling the engine. What is and do I need to do anything when remounting the engine? Any ideas?

thanks

Got a picture? Sounds like a previous owner had put the silicone in there.

Sea ray will use a sealant like 5200 in the holes where the lags hold the motor mount to the stringer to keep water out of the wood. My 2004 has the same thing, if you remove the engine I would do the same drop some sealant in before you put the lags in

Before installing the bolts shoot some 5200 into the holes and then tighten the bolts to spec or is there something else that needs to be done? 5200 will allow for the bolts to be removed if the engine has to come back out?

I'm surprised you had to remove the mount lag screws to remove your engine, and glad for you that they didn't twist off. Normally the top nut on the front mount stud is removed, and the engine is lifted off the studs. These top nuts were frozen on my front mounts. 3 of 4 lag screws twisted off when I removed them. excavating the stubs and setting new anchor bolts became a large, unplanned project.

Consider using stainless hanger bolts when reinstalling. The wood/lag screw end will secure the bolts in the stringers. The 3/8 machine thread and nuts will insure easy removal if you have to remove the mounts in the future. https://www.boltdepot.com/Hanger_bolts_Stainless_steel_18-8_3_8-16.aspx

Set the mounts with the slotted hole to the front. Start and leave the anchor bolts loose until you restore alignment. The slots will provide a teeny bit of side to side alignment correction.

Per the service manual it says to remove the front mount bolts. My bolts dont mount directly into the stringer, but are bolt on both the top and bottom and the bold can be removed before pulling the engine.

Here is a picture where you can see some of the silicone like material in the hole...doesn't seem like a lot. Probably just a ball at the top and then push the bolt through and torque to spec.
