I just replaced my transom plywood in my aluminum 1972 Starcraft Nova. I am going to install the engine tomorrow. Here is a pic of the front mount before I redid the transom.

Should these fabric washers be here? The material looks similar to the rear engine mount fabric washers. As you can see there isn't much clearance. I'm wondering if I should just try the install without the washers.

Thanks for the help. I wish some of those parts drawings were just a little easier to read; I guess they are from a long time ago.

follow up

I went to the local Marina Store to get an opinion. We concluded the rubber bushing was beat up on the part of the front engine support that bolts to the engine. He sold me a new used one, support with bushing installed, for $105. It seemed to alleviate the situation. I now have more clearance. However, a 50 cent washer may have had the same effect.

Oops.... Those rubber mounts are replaceable...

Oops should be my middle name. The guy at the store (pretty sure he was a mechanic) said that is the only way they come, with the rubber bushing installed. Maybe that's the only way he's seen it. I guess it doesn't matter now.

He had a used one he needed to sell... Guess he did.

BTW, a used one, with a used bushing....... At least you know what to do when that mounting fails.. :D :D

Thanks for the help, Chris. I did look at the bushing on the used one, and it look pretty good, a lot better than the one I had. I don't have a press; are those easy to press in or out? BTW, I appreciate your helpful mercruiser videos.

It only takes a minute or so to press them in. I would think ay workshop would be happy to do it for you...Or if you have a bench vice, just use that....

Chris..
