Front Panel.jpg

The attached picture is the panel on the front of the boat that I recently purchased. It is a 1989 Crestliner 1750. I assume that this is something that was an option and came from the factory. I recently switched out the plug to fit my new trolling motor. I currently have one batter in the back in addition to the starting motor. There is a positive and negative set of cables for another battery. My questions are if I put this to charge wil it charge my batteries? If I have two batteries and leave it switched to 12V will it use both batteries with out frying my trolling motor? My Trolling motor is only a 12V.

Re: Front Panel Plug

trolling motor should only have 2 wires if its a 12v, the socket should have 3 pins. The pins are negative/12v+/24v+. If you have the trolling motor connected to the negative and 12v pins then it will be fine but if its connected to the negative and 24v pin then burn up.

Do not switch to charge 2-12v unless the leads are insulated in the rear of the boat (put tape on spare leads)
Do not switch to 24v (if wired correctly nothing will happen and trolling motor will not run)
if you add a second battery then use the 2-12v setting
You can back feed the trolling motor socket to charge the batteries but that real old school and it was never a good idea in the first place so unless you can not get to the batteries don't use it. If you have to then you will have to buy another trolling motor plug and hardwire that to a charger then put the switch on 2-12v and plug the charger in the trolling motor socket.

Best suggestion is to delete the switch and wiring then hardwire the battery directly to the trolling socket with a breaker with in 6" of the battery/batteries (parallel).
