Most bow stops on the trailer are V blocks, the bow eye is winched up right under the V block; thus helping in preventing the boat from going further in case of an accident. If you are talking the front roller on the trailer right under the keel, most are either 3" or 6".
I would need to see a picture of what you are referring to, most trailers have a v stop, now my EZ loader has a double bow roller set up, one roller above and one below the bow eye.

I had one trailer with the 2 rollers at the bow, I took them off and put 2 V blocks in place of the rollers; made it a lot easier when loading and securing the front of the boat. It seemed like with the rollers that the eye at the bow was always trying to ride up over the top roller, with the V block the boat stopped and was solid against the V block.

The way I have mine set up it just cradles the boweye right between the two rollers, works out quite well for now, I am going to rework the trailer next summer so I might look at some different options at that time.
