Hello all,

I was given a boat and was unaware that the prop should be taken off every six months or so to be greased so that the prop or hub do not freeze themselves to the shaft. Anyway, I have used a dremel to cut off the prop and have cut away the rubber portion of the hub. I am now left with the piece of the hub that goes onto the shaft and I believe the teeth of the hub and the teeth of the shaft have corroded together due to lack of maintenance and salt water.

I tried a prop puller before cutting off the prop and it would not budge. I also sprayed (what I could get in there) PB Blaster with no affect. Do you have any ideas on how to remove this last piece so that I can install my new prop and hub properly with grease etc. I am weary of cutting it because I am worried I will ruin the teeth on the shaft.

I may try prop puller again now that rubber is gone as it may pull with more force. Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Ayuh,... Using your grinder, you should be able to cut through Most, but not All the way through,+ then Split it in two...

Re: Frozen Hub

Thank you. I am going to give prop puller one more shot at it since I have a nice piece of metal to grab onto now with the prop removed. If not I will give the grinder a shot. Was just scared to hurt the shaft but as you said I will do my best to get close and then whack it with a hammer and chisel.
