I probably already know the answer to this, but figured I'd run it past the guys that have experienced it. This spring, as I always do cause I keep the boat in the water for the summer, I had my drive pressure and vacuum tested which it passed at the time. This past weekend it locked up on me after all day of tubing and heading back to the dock at the end of the day. I got the boat home, pulled the props, and the lower shaft seals were cocked. I went to drain the oil and nothing came out other than a few spits of clear water. Is it possible that the drive is salvageable? Or do I just take out the small loan for a new(refurbished) unit?

anything is salvageable with enough time and money. I would at least start a teardown and discover what actually failed and work from there.

Well i pulled the drive tonight and split the upper and lower halfs. The upper still turns freely, the coupler between the upper and lower split, and the top bearing of the of the lower half is frozen. This gives me a little more hope that this is salvageable. And yes it had oil in it at the beginning of the season.
