first the model# j175txctd i have been told this is a 83 model and also a 86 model any one know for sure?<br />bought it 10 days ago took it to the bay cranked up fine, idled out past the no wake zone approximately 200 yds. gave about half throttle and 30 seconds later the engine just died. tried to crank it back up to no avail. engine would spin over fine but wouldnt crank. after an hour and a half finally flagged someone down to pull me back to dock. (got sea tow now) took in to shop they tell me power pack on port side went out. $300.00 and good to go. also had them do compression check and they were 100psi, 100psi, 95psi, 95psi, 95psi, 95psi. they said that was ok? since i had a professional work on it i didnt bother cranking it up i assumed it was ok. then this morning after loading up fishing equip. i think let me start it up before we leaveand guess what spin spin and never cranking up .man i was hot, i take the cover off and inspect i can see a new powerpak on port side but i also noticed that the rectifier which has 2 yellow wires and a red wire coming from it that the red wire has melted in two. and was arcing on the engine block. attempted to repair the red wire with wire connector tried to start engine and now again no spark to plugs.i guess my question is does a rectifier have anything to do with getting spark to plugs or what? this is starting to be a expensive hobby with no enjoyment yet. except writing the check for the boat (20 ft. pursuit) which i have always dreamed of having a boat. sorry for such a long post just a frustrated newbie boat owner.
