FRUSTRATING problem

1972 6hp johnson

when i bought my motor it didnt pump water ... so i changed the impeller and stat. (it started after one pull)

filled tank to max 3 gal. with 50:1 mix then once the tank got about half empty probs started.

would start then die at times but just the other day at a resort lake it would start run for 2 sec then die but would take about6 or seven pulls inbetween priming system

have you check spark on both cylinders, compression, are you flooding the motor with the choke?

assuming you started with clean fuel there is a filter usually overlooked in the fuel tank i would suggest bypassing it and installing an inline filter, then the carb filter take them out and clean w/carb cleaner you cant see water in them if its present,blow everything out w/air empty the carbs bowl and try again if this helps its fuel related try this before you tear into the carb ,process of elemination.

is the vent open on the fuel tank? sure sounds like it is not.

vent i keep open while using.

cruiseaday filled when i bought the motor.

checked spark when bought ( had spark ) placed thumb over plug hole for compession but thats not a accurate way but it had lots of force.

had not checked fuel filter but it was on my list of to do things for the motor but like yous said it was over looked ... but it was running like brand new before and now this ... i guess ill go filter then update i guess ... just hope ill have the time lol
