JB, saw where you recomended not using premium gas or fuel additives. Please explain why. I use Stabil fuel stabilizer in my 89 octane fuel. If I don't I have constant carb problems. Should I be doing something else, like running the gas out of the V6 mercs? I've heard pro's and cons about running carbs dry. Jump in anywhere 12footer...

dg

Re: fuel additives, JB, 12foot

I guess you've read the thread on additives.
We all tend to have our preferences. My personal preference is spray type decarb cleaners over the additives, and fresh gas.
My personal equipment refuses to run properly with Sta-Bil at the recommended dosage. All additives have the side-effect of boosting the octane of the fuel they were added to.
As for your situtation, if it aint broke.....You know the rest. But I would advise to burn a lower octane fuel when using additives, just for performance sake.
It will detonate much cooler.
As for the carbs, I run mine ALLMOST dry.
There is a point after fuel line disconnection where the engine's RPMs will pick-up ,or fall-off noticeably. That's when I shut the engine down. Running multiple carbs dry is risky. If one runs dry,the cylinders it supplies will be lacking lubrication, while the others continue to allow the engine to run..Bad news.
Run most out, then shut it down. Don't allow the engine to stall from lack of fuel (this goes for baby one-lungers even).
