If the bulb is good it shouldnt cause starting problems. Give us a model number and discription of your symtoms and your starting procedure, maybe we can help.

--ok it was always hard to start since i got it.i took the flywheel off to check the points and found that the plate that the points bolt to had a lot of play in it.making the points open and close at the wrong time so i changed the plate, points .020,coils,plugs .030(ngk) ,wires, all new fuel line, water pump and lower end seal kit.the engine has great spark now and does not sputter anymore. did a compression test and got 63 psi on both cylinders.fresh fuel 50-1 mix
--- ok now for starting i pump the bulb till its firm put the choke. set the tiller arm to start position and pull and pull and pull about 8-10 times.once it fires off i take the choke off and it runs well.once hot i can start it with a half pull every time.
--i have never decarbon the engine and was going to try that next.i was also told to get champion plugs instead of the ngk. i never went though the carb or the fuel pump because when its running it runs great

decarbon the engine today.besides pissing off all the neighbors with the smoke. i gained a few rpms and had to re-adjust the carb. after i was done i changed the plugs with champion plugs and it starts right up now.i am not sure if that stuff cleans carbs out too but for 6 $ a can and alittle time it worked like a charm i did not run another compression test to see if i gained there but from what i seen in the test barrel there was a lot of carbon in the engine

Compression was kind of low 100lbs is considered minimum.
Folks have reported good results with decarb procedures.Ill bet compression is better now.
Glad things are back to normal.
