Does anyone know how much fuel a 1997 Monark Pro 1700 boat holds.

Re: fuel capacity

I added fuel to it today 2.5 gallons at a time. Each 2.5 gallons the fuel gauge went up 1/4 of a tank, so I'm assuming it holds 10 gallons. I have a 75hp motor on it so that's probably enough fuel. If I repower to the max engine(125hp) I'm not sure that amount of fuel will last very long.

Re: fuel capacity

Unless the tank was empty and 10 gallon filled it you cannot be sure. I would have guessed a tank larger than 10 gallon though.

I assume you know that most fuel gauges are very unreliable.

Re: fuel capacity

run it dry (use caution and have a known amount of fuel on board to get you back to the fuel pump), or siphon it dry. then fill it up and see what she holds.
Pop the access and look on the tank. There should be a label there
agreed. even my '75 has one. it's by the fuel sender

agreed there too. unless it's a small hp o/b with an external fuel tank.

yep, mine is too. it reads overfull. at slightly over half full, i'm at about half full. @ E i'm done. never tested that idea yet, but watched my fuel gauge for 7 years and i believe that when it says e, i'm gonna be paddling....
edit, when yer checking yer fuel cap. for low. it's nice to have a buddy with a boat around to tow yer sorry xxx in when yer out so ya can fill up and see what she holds. keep close to the dock when yer on your last drop.
just some ideas.

I agree, 10 gal. doesn't sound right. I would bet it would be double that........ I'm trying to verify...... Sometimes they seem to run forever on the first half tank and then the gauge can drop like a rock from half to empty.........

Exactly my experience. I have replace my analog fuel gauge with a mercmonitor (smartcraft gauge) that is accurate to .2 gallons on a 38 gallon tank. Much peace of mind.
10 gallon on a built in tank would be a huge surprise. Even back in 60's, our boat had 20+. Accurate knowledge of your fuel capacity and burn rate can save a world of problems.

For that reason I never look at the fuel gauge. Yamaha electronics tells me how much fuel I've used since the last fill ~~ and since the motor was 1st started although no idea why that would be important. By watching how much used since last fill I know how much is in my 90 gallon tank.

Sometimes they can read FULL until less than 1/3 remains.

Re: fuel capacity

The access to the tank is very difficult for measuring and I can't see any size written on the tank.

Re: fuel capacity

I think I'll take a few gallons of premix with me and run the tank dry, hopefully I won't pick up too much crud from the bottom of the tank.
