I have an 1987 85 hp Force o/b which leaks fuel from the air intake when running in just about all rpms. Our initial thought was the carbs, but they have been recently rebuilt. Then the reed valves. Could you reccomend a good set and how much on average they go for?

I hope one of the more experienced members might concur. If the reeds were bad, wouldn't the engine backfire through the carbs? Did you rebuild the carbs yourself. I think I'd also recheck the needle and seat valve for free operation and make sure that the float floats and is properly adjusted.

Try pumping the fuel bulb when the engine is off while looking into the offending carb throat and see if fuel is leaking out. My first guess is whoever rebuilt the carbs did an incomplete job on replacing and/or adjusting the float valve. If it is a broken reed you should feel air/fuel pumping out of the carb when its running. Then you gotta worry about what happened to the missing reed piece.
