What is the range or average fuel consumption rate of an Evinrude 225, 1994, in a 22 ft boat open console, loaded with 4 adults ? I just want to have an idea so I can calculate range in nm.

Re: fuel consumption rate

Hello
that engine at 5500 or so will burn 21 to 23 gallons of gas per hour. at 4500 about 18 or so. best to make a few short runs and keep a double chck on the fuel gauge. most people that rely on gas gauges paddle. best to know about how many hours it will go along with a gas gauge.
Good luck and keep posting.

I normally cruise at 3000 RPM...around 22-25 mph... what is the expected fuel consumption under those conditions ?....

and, how can I check/inspect/test the fuel gauge and fuel sender ?

Re: fuel consumption rate

the only to know for certain is to fill the boat full of fuel. run the boat for say 3 hours. refill the boat afterward and divide by hours run. example if after 3 hours of runtime @ 3000 rpm it takes 24 gallons of fuel to refill then your burning about 8 gallons an hour. anything else is just ballpark this is the only way i know to be certain.

Actually the best wat to be certain is to install a flow scan gauge. I have one on my boat and I usually cruise at 3700-4000 rpm and am burning 12 - 15 gallons per hour, per motor. This is with a 6000 lb boat and 4 people, twin 1999 Johnson 200's. I'd say you should estimate at 3000 rpm your probably gonna be in the range of 10 -12 gallons per hour, to be safe. Bogart's idea is pretty good I would give that a shot, unless you want to install a flow scan. Good Luck.
