1997 johnson 50hp vro (disabled when I got motor) Idles all day long, Put it in gear and it will continue to run until you go full throttle and it shuts of. Brought it home run sea foam thru a tank of gas still idles fine. I can go half throttle for a few minutes then it will rev up by itself and shut off without me touching throttle. So im gonna redo both carbs , need the omc part # if anyone knows it (is it 396701?) Is there any other issue that may cause this same problem?

Sounds like the carbs are running out of fuel. Before you rebuild them, pump the primer bulb and see if it will stay running at WOT. If so, check the antisiphon valve on the fuel tank, change all the filters and inspect the fuel line for air leaks. If that doesn't fix it, you may have a fuel pump issue. If it still dies when pumping the primer bulb (unlikely), the carbs are sure to blame.

Thanks for the info I will let yall know how it goes. Tashasdaddy its great having someone with so much knowledge so close.

While it was running at half throttle it went wot by itself. Several times. ok i fired it up let it idle for a minute then went half throttle making sure I had the gas bulb in my hand squeezing every few seconds and then went wot doing the same it ran for 10 seconds and then cut off. I did it again and at half throttle it reved up by itself sounded like wot then it shut off.

Personally I would be checking the spark as well.
Just my 2 cents though.
