Fuel dripping from VenturI cluster

2 bbl mercarb on a 5.7 v8. Boat fires up fine when cold, but it seems to be flooding as it's running. Because when I shut it off , it does not want to restart. I can look down in there and see a pretty significant amount of fuel dripping from venturi cluster ( even has a tiny drip 10 minutes after it's been shut off) into the throttle body, is that normal or is that my problem? I rebuilt the carburetor and changed all the internal components thinking it would fix whatever's causing it. After the rebuild I have the same problem. Any ideas? I Replaced all gaskets, accelerator pump, float , needles/ seat, spring, check ball, one thing I did find out, the schematic shows two gaskets underneath the Jets, the rebuilt kit did not have these, nor did the Old build have them. It did however have 2 steel washers that seem to fit the Jets perfectly, so I used those. Can Somebody point me in the right direction on what I need to look for? I'm almost to the point of just buying a new carburetor. Thanks !

There are usually a couple of different styles of needle and seat. One is spring loaded. Or at least the last 2 barrel carb I rebuilt had that option. You may want to try that.

Yes mine is spring loaded, and I rebuilt it with a spring-loaded one

float level too high?

I am beginning to think I may have just flooded it by priming too much because my battery was low. Sunday it fired up fine , so I let it idle and run until it was warmed up. Then I shut it off, and was jumping in and out of the boat restarting it at different intervals of sitting time. First was five minutes, then 15 minutes, then half an hour, then I let it sit till it was totally cooled off. It started back up every time, and ran very well. So then I let it sit overnight, and fired it up this morning, again it fired up very easily. however when I jumped out of the boat I left it in hi neutral accidentally. about five minutes later when I jumped back into the boat , to try to start it , it does not start. , just cranks. Do You think me leaving it in high neutral for this five minutes could have caused flooding? Or maybe my problem is resurfacing?

You mean you left the throttle in engaged without the engine running? That should not have caused a problem. You may have some debris that is causing the needle valve not to close completely.... not sure what to suggest otherwise.

I agree if gas is dripping...even intermittently...you have a problem that needs to be fixed. If you can get it with a rebuild...before you buy a new carb...do some tests. (fuel pressure, yellow tell tale tube, fuel filters/water seperator).

Just a thought....you may want to check fuel pump pressure. Excessive pressure from a faulty pump will override the float/needle valve and cause flooding after shutdown and hard starting with a hot engine.
