Prob been discussed before but I cant find it. Sorreee. :D
Hope you guys can share some advice/expertise.

Im currently running a 93 150Hp OceanPro on a 20ft OMC cc with 85 gal gas tank.
The engine has been giving me problems of late and im thinking of getting a new one for reliability issues and fuel economy (currently 1.6 mpg running at 4000rpm, 25mph). Not wanting to get into the 2vs4-stroke debate, but what would be a guestimate on the fuel consumption of the newer engines? Im looking at Honda 150, the Suzuki 4 stroke 200 and ETEC 200.

Cheers

Hamish

Re: Fuel Economy Q

Hey Hamish,

Kelly Cook pointed me in this direction - it helsp give some minor comparison, gives you something to think about:

http://www.stingrayboats.com/products/performance/CompareManufacturers2.php?temporary=;&hp=130-190&enginemake=OB&length=20&initial=1&date=&lengthtype=on&displ=&fuel=&sort=&showstin gray=&onetokeep=&hpclicked=1&tocompare=

I've alreadu selected the 20 footers with 130-160hp range to give you some comparison, if you play with the settings on the left, it *may* give you a rough basis to make a choice on.... hope that helps?

Re: Fuel Economy Q

Hamish : At 1.6mpg 4K rpm, 25mph you are burning a tad over 15 gal/hr. Sounds like you are having engine problems. You should be in the range of 2.5 to 4 mpg at 4K rpm. All this is based on your ability to turn max RPM at WOT. If can't, you may be over prop'd and lugging the engine causing the high fuel consumption.
