When idleing my 86 225, the primer ball is soft and the filter only has a minimal amount of gas in it, as soon as I start to advance throttle there is no response for about 5 seconds, then the rpms pick up and it runs great. replaced primer bulb and fuel line, clamps, checked everything I could for leaks, checked tank vent, ant ideas ??

I would test the output pressure of your fuel pump at idle. It operates on vacume and if the diaphram is weak it may not supply enough fuel. When the rpm picks up the vacume increases & the pump will deliver more fuel.

Re: fuel filter empty

Remove filter, fill filter with fuel, remove fuel line from engine, pump primer bulb until all air is purged, reattach line, pump bulb until bowls fill and bulb is hard. If you find alot of air in the filter again, odds are one of your connections is sucking air. SoLittle's suggestion is also a good one to verify if your pump is failing.<br />Good Luck
