As far as I can tell my 2003 75 HP Merc does not have a inline filter. Definitely none between tank and motor.......just squeeze bulb. Would a inexpensive inline be sufficient or should I go the water seperator route? Also with either type.....should it be between the bulb and motor?

If it a 2 stroke 3 cylinder, you have a white inline filter on the fuel pump outlet to carbs. This filter only catches debris down to 20 microns and no water. A water seperator filter is the best bet with todays fuels...

It is 2 stroke 3cyl so I will look for inline filter under cowling. THANKS! Now in regards to water separator filter....saw on a Wally World with screw-on cannister filter. I have room to mount the bracket between fuel tank and motor but as asked before....should this filter be between the bulb and motor? I would think so because after sitting for extended period of time this would allow the squeeze bulb to pressurize the cannister filter. Is the right or wrong??

Install filter before bulb and motor as you suspected....
