Hey guys... I took the boat out last weekend and all was running well.. At then end of the day, boat acted funny and died. I got towed in and was thinking I has a fuel problem. The boat wouldnt resart.

Today, I tried to start the boat and it fired right up. I had it on the hose and noticed the bulb was collapsed.

On this Merc 454, I have a Parker fuel / water seperator (with bowl) mounted on the back of the bench seat in the engine bay. This gets its fuel from the tank.. on the output side of the filter, I have the primer bulb which is flattened. From there, the hose goes to the engine mounted Sierra fuel filter.

Do I need to have two filters? Can I just bypass the Parker unit and have the fuel line go directly to the Sierra spin on? I am thinking I have a blockage in the parker somewhere (the bowl is full).

I opened up the gas fill cap to see if it relieved pressure on the bulb.. It didn't.

Thanks,

Joe

Ayuh,... It could be the parker filter, or the primer bulb,...
Ya don't need either...
Or it could be a problem Up-stream at the tank...

All ya need is a canister filter, before the fuelpump, 'n then the carb...

I/O's should never have a primer bulb installed in the fuel system.

Thanks for the info. This seperator has a plastic bowl in it too.. Seems to be wrong for the I/O.. Dangerous.

I will scrap the Parker and just get a new filter to mount the engine and connect the fuel lines to bypass the Parker. If that works, I will scrap the bulb and get a new line.

I will also take a look at the tank connections under the Pie in the floor. Maybe the anti siphon valve is stuck?

Thanks,

Joe
