fuel filter/water separator

spin on fuel filter for a mercruiser 350 chebby 1980 model. dumb question.. the filter says it is also a water separator..where does the water go after it is separated.???? :confused:

Flash, That device feeds gasoline to the engine from the top of the canister. The water sinks to the bottom of the canister. That is how it "seperates" the water from the fuel. If the canister fills up with water, the water will then go to the motor.

Oh man, thats just wonderful... I guess it's better than nothin tho.....Ive seen those recor filters that have a plastic bottom on them with a drain plug..that makes more sense to me..thanks

Any way to tell when the seperator needs to be replaced (i.e., how much water is in it)?

Yes there is a way to tell.The motor will surge,sputter and the die.Thats how you tell when it is full.I rather replace it every spring as pre.maintenance.I did the sputter and die thing once and learned my lesson.Charlie

less than the 16oz bondo just told u to pour down the carb.. he he he..<br /><br />strikes me as one of those devices that might cause more problems than it cures.. stores up all that nice water then feeds it neat to your carb when u forget to change it.. he he<br /><br />trog100

Trog I luv you... It is one of the things that work some of the time but not all of the time,,,,and when the bottom rust out. you have no worries .........................BOOM
