Hello All,

2009 3.0L GLP-J with SX Drive
24 total hours.

Last week I installed a 10 micron spin on type water/fuel seperator. I had to install it to one side of the engine bay so I added just shy of four feet of hose. I merely split the line from the tank to the pump and plumbed in the new filter.

I was out today and the engine is running out of fuel after about 2-3 minutes at cruising speed. I think this is a coincidence of the new filter not the filter being the culprit. While out on the water, I removed the new filter from the plumbing from the tank to the pump. SAME issue.

One question: Can I have too many fuel fiilters?

I know there is one under the fuel pump, in a sediment bowl. I removed that for testing. There is another at the carb. inlet. That one I didn't have tools for. Now I have three!

I have new filters ordered (all three) so I have them for next week.

I am reasonably certain that the anti siphon valve is the real culprit but I've got some work to do to get to it.

Second Question: Sound reasonable on the A-S valve being the culprit?

Thanks.

Too many filters is not the problem, air leaks in the system probably are. Did you use standard 1/2" wide hose clamps? They usually cause air leaks, use the narrow mini clamps instead.
Fittings and plugs in the filter need to be properly sealed (NO Teflon tape) that also causes leaks.
Was the element installed properly? seal in place and oiled?

If you want to check for air leaks, plumb in a section of clear hose between the fuel hose and the fuel pump and see if you get air in there while running at higher rpm under load.

Also doubt the A-S valve picked that time to fail.

Thanks Don.

I added some coments within your remarks.

Too many filters is not the problem, air leaks in the system probably are. Did you use standard 1/2" wide hose clamps? They usually cause air leaks, use the narrow mini clamps instead. I used Mini's-two on each end. 3/8 ID Marine Fuel Hose. I did oil the gasket. The new filter, when eliminated from the system, still had the issue. Fittings and plugs in the filter need to be properly sealed (NO Teflon tape) that also causes leaks. No Teflon tape. Learned my lesson with that stuff. Was the element installed properly? seal in place and oiled?

If you want to check for air leaks, plumb in a section of clear hose between the fuel hose and the fuel pump and see if you get air in there while running at higher rpm under load. I will try that. I'm going to replace all the filters anyway as a measure of maintenance. Can't hurt-right? Ths boat sat a lot as the low hours show. The first outing, it ran fine. I just found it odd that it picked this time to have an issue. If I can get to the A-S valve, I can run a new section of hose. Eliminating two connection points. Also doubt the A-S valve picked that time to fail.

Is there an easy way to check the anti siphon valve? I have it out.

Thanks.

Thanks Don S.

All is well now.

I found air bubbles in the line from the spin on filter to the fuel pump.

I ended up moving the spin on closer and reclamping.

Runs good now.

Thanks again.
