Lately I've been restoring my 1987 Celebrity/Calais boat. I'm in the middle of carb and fuel work. I just started draining the tank of the fuel and while taking the fuel sender unit off it fell in. I can see it but the hole is to small to fit my hand in their and my long needle nose pliers don't reach down that far . I'm gonna try a metal coat hanger and form a hook on it to get it out of their. Any other ideas of how to get it out?

While going through the fuel lines and cleaning them theirs this pump/ canister under the fuel water filter. It has a fuel line coming from the fuel/ water filter and a line going to the carb and some electrical wires. I don't know what that is?(fuel pump possibly?)
After the tank is drained is their any treatment I should do? The tank looks good inside (except the rust colored gas) no varnish or sediment to my surprise. I believe the tank is stainless steel.

Ayuh,.... Yer bent wire is 'bout the only way to get the parts outa yer tank,...

If ya can't get 'em, just get a new sender, 'n let the parts drift about,...

I'd sooner think the tank is aluminum, ssteel tanks ain't that common,...

Nothin' to add to yer tank, but clean fresh fuel,...
The Filter catches the crud, 'n water goin' by, carry a spare, 'n always check the Contents of the 1s ya take off,...

I'm guessin' yer lookin' at an electric fuel pump just after the filter, post a picture,...

Ayuh,.... That's an aftermarket Carter pump,.... a quality piece,...

Just make sure it's feed circuit is fed through a safety oil pressure switch, 'n it'll be just fine,...

Where would i find this safety oil pressure switch? In the dash or on the motor?

On the motor, it is usually tee'd with the oil pressure sender
