I am completely new to fixing boat engines (or any engines) so please forgive me if anything here is really obvious.

I am running (or in this case actually NOT running) a Suzuki DT65 from about 1985. I had no joy starting up after a year or so stored, so disassembled and cleaned the carbs according to the procedures in my manual. They were pretty dirty judging by the colour the carb cleaner changed to.

The problem is now when I push clean fuel through the filter and pump to prime it I can see fuel squirting out of a hole at the top of the carburetor. On my model the float bowl is at the bottom and the hole at the top is next to the Pilot Jet screw. I cannot see why fuel would come out of this hole in the manual. The carb is made by Mikuni.

With fuel squirting out I dare not start the engine to see if the problem goes away. I'm hoping someone will tell me that either a) This is OK, don't worry, or b) I've put the carb back together wrongly and I can have another go.

Any help really appreciated.

Niels
