Fuel gauge issues

the fuel gauge in my dash says that i am always on E, needle doesnt even flicker when i turn teh key to give it power. the gauge on the fuel tank itself says i have 1/2 tank. i checked the back of the gauge, and it showed that i had power coming to it. Does this mean that the gauge is bad and should be replaced or is there something amiss elswewhere? thanks.

The guage may very well be O.K. Usually it is the sender that goes. They are very easy to replace.

i have that same problem occasionaly, and it is usually the connection, even though it seems tight, i tighten it just a touch and it starts working again for weeks or months, touch of corrosion maybe?
