Fuel Gauge not giving accurate reading

Fuel Gauge is not giving an accurate reading. Is always 1/2 full

I pulled the float out and it was stuck, I freed it up but it still did not help.

Is there a way to trouble shoot to determine if it is the guage or a faulty float.

Also the wires that go frm the float to the fuse box and or guage how should these be wired?
