So this spring the fuel gauge in our glastron stopped working. I am wondering how I can diagnose the problem. Is it the gauge of or the sending unit? Thanks

Put an ohmmeter on the leads from the sender to the gauge. The reading should be between 0 and 240 ohms. If you have some gas in the tank, the reading will not be zero. In my experience, normally the senders go bad.

If that test is inconclusive, pull the sender out of the tank, reconnect the wires and move the float, while checking the resistance with the ohmmeter. If no change in reading, the sender is bad. Of course, make sure the wires make a good connection.

The wire on top of the sending unit is a ground wire. If you remove that (might be bad connection there) and ground the wire you should see the gauge go from E to F. If the gauge works then there's a problem with the sender. Try cleaning the top connection first. If that doesn't work you need to remove the sender, there may be another wire underneath with a bad connection. If all the connections are good then the sender is bad.
