Just bought a boat with built in fuel tank. The fuel gauge, on dash, goes below empty when tank has fuel in it. Can't find a bad connection. Any ideas?
poppy
It looks as if the float arm may not be adjusted correctly to suit the fuel levels in the tank.
Remove the sender unit from the tank cover the hole with some cloth and using a jumper wire to ground the unit to the engine turn the key to the run position and move the float arm through the arc from full to empty and observe the readings on the gauge.
You may also need to check with the gauge manufacturer that the tank unit is the correct match to the gauge. There are 3 or 4 different combinations and both parts must match in type.
If it out of adjustment you may need to alter the length of the arm or bend it or both to calibrate the sender unit to your tank.

Be carefull to avoid any short circuits while the unit is out of the tank.

Peter
