I need help troubleshooting the fuel gauge on my '78 Grady White. The gauge itself checks out. How can I tell if the sender is ok?

Re: Fuel Gauge

If the gauge is good, remove the sender wire from the gauge. Turn the ignition on and look to see what the gauge is doing. If it is pegged below E, the sender should be putting out 240 ohms at E and 33 ohms at full. If it is pegged at F, the sender should be putting out 10 ohms at E and 180 ohms at F. These readings are taken with an ohmmeter between the sender wire and ground.

Tony...try this, take the sending unit wire off at the tank and ground it out, with power to your guage the needle should peg all the way over, if it doesn't then you may have a broken wire, if it does then most likely it's the sender, here a webpage to give you some additional info Fuel Sender Info
