Fuel Hose in Motor?

I'm replacing the fuel assembly running from my tank to my motor. While I'm at it, I figured I'd replace the hoses under the cowling leading to the fuel pump and from the pump to the carbs, which totals maybe three feet of hose.

My question is, is there any special kind of hose I should use for those lines in the motor, or can I use the same kind of hose that makes up the assembly from the tank to the motor? I was looking at some hoses on iboats, and they're pretty expensive and a lot more than what I need. Can I just buy another fuel line assembly and cut what I need from that?

Also, I'm replacing the inline fuel filter, which is currently located between the fuel pump outlet and the carbs. Is there a better place in the line to position the filter (before the fuel pump)?

Thanks!

Re: Fuel Hose in Motor?

The fuel pump can shed particles from the diaphragm or more rarely brass pieces from the button valves. For this reason, you WANT the filter after the fuel pump.

Yes, you can use sections of a made-up hose assembly. The original hoses were about 5/16 ID and are quite sufficient but I like to use 3/8.
