I have a 1969 Mercury 500, serial # 2629264. The question I have is in reference to the fuel lines. All that I have read is that the fuel lines should be 3\8 I.D.. So I have 3/8 outside of the power head but inside of the head compartment I have 1/4 in.. A previous owner put adaptors in that screwed into where OEM hoses are supposed to screw into and then fit lines with hose clamps, so that only fuel hoses could be put in verses the OEM lines that had to be screwed in. My questions is should the lines be 3/8 I.D. to the carb? Would this affect the performance of the engine because of lack of fuel flow? And last where can I get the screw in adaptors that have 3/8 in ID?

Thanks for any feed back!

I believe that the 1/4 " line will be fine to supply the fuel the carbs need. If you want to change it over to 3/8" hose, you can get brass fittings with hose barbs at most hardware and auto supply outlets to do the job. The 3/8" will be harder to get it to work in the tight space inside the motor cowling.

Thanks for getting back. Do you know if this affects engine performance such as idle or top end?
