My engine has always rich, even putting my scan tool on it I can fin nothing which is outside of the parameters. At the end of this season I plan to get into the injectors. Start off with doing a balance test and if the injectors are the issue either rebuild or have them rebuilt. Has anyone ever tried this or would this be a bit to much for the back yard mechanic? With the cost of new ones at the $160 to $200 each area, and rebuilds in the $100, looking for some ideas.

Probably going to replace the MAP and air temp sensor just for giggles.

I would cross reference the injectors. a set of 8 should be under $300 What flow rate are you running now?

Here is a link to the summit page if you have the GM part number http://www.summitracing.com/search/...9&SortBy=BestKeywordMatch&SortOrder=Ascending

If I can find a set for around $300 I would just replace all of them. So far as flow rate I don't really know, but they are just stock injectors, and from what I've found they are used on about everything from V6 to my 502.

Posted this question on OSO and they came back with a couple items. Sure would like to further understand just how to match them up. Manual 16 indicates my VST fuel pressure should be 34-38 psi during test. I'm sure it goes higher then that at maybe WOT. I've determined I must use high impedance injectors to protect the ECU. I can find some 30lb injectors indicating they can handle up to 450HP. Then I go to another site and they indicate 36lb to get that much, If you could install lets say 48lb injectors which could handle up to 600HP but your engine will not use all the fuel it can supply, would the computer just turn it off? Don't know, but could sure use an injection guru

Have you Google searched ultrasonic fuel injector cleaning process?

Most cleaning companies claim they will not charge you if they can't clean them to specs which is nice so your able to determine how many injectors you would need to buy vs all of them. Normally you'll get a full report of before cleaning and after cleaning fuel flow rates.

Here's one company out of many,
http://clean.injectorrx.com/outboard...aning-service/

Doing the injector balance test is a good step to help know the injectors condition. Do you have the wire harness that plugs into both the scan tool and fuel injectors in order to fire each injector individually?

Also if you can rebuild your bravo 3 drive then yes you can pull off your intake plenum & fuel rail to gain access to the injectors.:thumb:

You'll need items 9 & 17, http://www.mercruiserparts.com/Show_...+INTAKE+PLENUM

Using service manual 16 on page 5C-166 will walk you through the fuel rail process.

Thanks Scott, it list all the part numbers, sure wish I could find the specifications on the injectors. If I could find that they were 30, 36, 48 or other pound style, it would make it easier to look up. My current plan is once the season is done I'll pull the injectors and send them off for cleaning. Hopefully the company I send them to can tell me the specs on them, at least they should be able to do that.

After more reading, I'm starting to think the temp and MAP sensors has a larger impact on fuel flow then first thought. Maybe go completely through all sensors and see if I can figure out why I'm running rich. Thought the scan tool would provide more insight, guess I'll think some more on that one

From what I can tell from a bit of digging on offshoreonly, the Mercruiser injectors are Keihin inectors (Honda) with about a 42# or 43# rating

the replacement for 805225A1 is a Bosch/Mallor/???? 9-33100

Much thanks, appears they are the 42 to 43. There was still one comment about maybe a 36 but most of the folks agree with the prior. The PDF file had some good info

Regards

Sorry about the link, that seems to almost always happen when you post a "parts section" from that website. There is a separation usually between the numbers that you have to close the gap or it kills the link like that. Sometimes it's hard to find sometimes not.:disillusionment:

I fixed the link in post 5 and 7 for Scott.

tunertech is the one to try and talk to but make sure he has his notes in front of him as he always seems to say that, lol. http://mefituning.com/

I'm leaning toward having the ECU looked at for tuning. I picked up my EFI systems off ebay years ago and it came from NY, NJ area. Was told it was from a twin engine setup in a go fast. The guy was going to super chargers and I didn't think to ask if the ECU was reprogramed. So I'm leaning toward sending my injectors to witchhunter unless there is another place. Just reading from OSO and a couple other sites which have indicated good results. Mefituning didn't mention they do cleaning, otherwise I might send them the everything. Actually hope it's just the injectors leaking, but this has been going on for a long time.

Guess I could take the boat off line and get everything done before the season ends, just hesitating. Wait until the end of the season and not find out if it worked until next year
