Fuel Issue

Well I converted my boat from a 305 to a 350 and also converted to electronic ignition as well as fuel... I got rid of the 2barrel for a 4barrel edlebrock 1409 600cfm with a spacer. Now on my electronic fuel pump i ran a cheap mr.gasket pump that is self rated to 8psi, have never actually tested this and i know its not marine... Under a heavy load and wide open the boat would fall flat on its face after about 30 seconds then revive it self until it does it again and i always figured it was the pump not keeping up with the new mods. Anyway i had the pump from the tank to fuel seperator, then from seperator to carb.. which i though was correct until someone told me pump is made to suck not push so i re routed it infront of seperator so that its sucking fuel from the seperator right to carb... well that did in fact solve the issue with it losing all power momentarilly. But, the boat now seems like it loads up during idle and starts to spit and sputter... also when running wide open throttle the boat feels like it loses a little power and then all of a sudden it comes back... i mean its not terribly bad but the boat has more to offer and sometimes it does just that and dont lose power at all, with this problem and 7 people on my 20ft boat i achived 53mph with 23pitch alpha one gen 2, 4900rpm."somtimes also boat will rev up to 5300 when she is running good" My question is one where do i get a marine inline fuel pump since in the sierra book i have dont list one, just for the 4.3 ... and also is this a problem with the 4barrel not opening up? choke issue? fuel issue? what do you guys think. Thanks!

Re: Fuel Issue

I bought a new engine from Michigan Motorz, they have fuel pumps from Carter as does Summit and Jeg's of the same style. My engine came with the 1409 and I am having issues with mine altough Im still not sure really what the issue is as it back fires above 4500 RPM's and after re-jeting two steps richer the issue isnt solved but seems better. I have a thread BACKFIRE THROUGH CARBURATER. Good luck.

Re: Fuel Issue

Check to see your plugs if you are running too rich or too lean.
I swapped motors 1970 140hp to a 2007 140hp and had to lean the carb out to a 48/50 and it had a 50/51 jet. Mine was loading up at idle and actually it ran better at wot after leaning it out. But my plugs where black and exhaust was sooty at idle.
