I have an '88 60 hp Johnson. My dad ran it (with water) once a year in his yard for 4 years, disconnected the fuel line and let the motor run itself dry, then stored it under cover. I can get it started but it wants to shut down. I can maintain a medium idle with the idle lever. In the water, I have to keep the keyed choke in to operate at high speed-if not the motor stops running. I replaced the fuel filter. removed the (3) carb drain screws and goo came out. I sprayed carb cleaner throughout and the fuel seems clean thru the drains. Fresh 87 Octane fuel, fresh oil in tank, fresh fuel filter. hmmmm. seems to run right at high throttle with the choke constantly pushed in--kinda hard to steer doing that all of the time. when the motor is running slow to medium I have to constantly, quickly, push the keyed choke in to keep her running, if I keep it in she will die. Can anyone offer some advice to me? Thanks guys, gofish (Nick).
