Fuel leak at the carb

I have a tiny fuel leak at the carb where the fuel line screws into the carb. The threads are wet, it doesn't seem to be loose but I'm not really sure how much force should be applied to that fitting.

I'll be rebuilding the carb but I doubt the kit has anything to do with that fuel fitting.

What usually is the cause of this? Attached is a picture showing the location.

Thanks :)

The fuel inlet fitting going into the carb has a gasket that should have been included in your carb kit. Be sure it's in place and the fitting is tight. No torque spec other than "tighten securely". The fitting in your pic is a tube flare nut on the fuel inlet line. Loosen it, pull the fuel tube back and make sure there is no debris on the tube flare or the seat in the inlet fitting. Use two wrenches to tighten the flare nut. One to back up the inlet fitting, the other to "tighten securely" the flare nut until the leak stops.

Yes -- and while tightening the fuel inlet fitting to the carb securely is important -- be aware that they can be stripped if a large wrench is used and its overtightened-- You only need enough force tho compress the gasket // Its also best to keep the fuel inlet fitting from spinning when tightening ( or loosening ) the line fitting.

The line fitting does need to be pretty tight as it compressing metal to make a seal --

I find that when you tighten these fittings it’s better if the carb is not solidly tightened down to the manifold. If it can move slightly it can allow the threads to start without cross threading or stripping. Use a proper wrench like ones you use on brake lines and just get it snug then tighten up the carb mounting bolts. Same thing works when you replace a fuel pump with steel lines; a little movement helps align the threads.

Ayuh,....... It's not tight enough, unless the threads are boogered up,....

Use 2 wrenches to tighten, or loosen it,.....
A big wrench on the big nut, 'n a 6 pt. tubin' wrench on the smaller brass nut,.....
