7.5 Merc circa 1973.
It runs like a dream but there is a slight fuel leak from the carb somewhere. All the gaskets look great. I tightened up the screws on the fuel pump and bowl. I have new gaskets on order but I really don't think it needs them. I replaced the short fuel line too.
Any idea where it could be coming from? It just seems to be seeping from somewhere.

Re: Fuel leak

When you replace the gaskets be sure to replace the needle and seat too. And check the float setting.

Re: Fuel leak

Also, when I prime it fuel sprays out of the carb. Why is that?

Re: Fuel leak

I have a Thunderbolt 850, 1975. My motor does the same thing, when I squeeze the primer bulb it squirts some fuel out of the air intake. I have to squeeze pretty hard though. It runs great otherwise.

There is a catch plate under my carbs and a tube that runs out the side of the motor. I would also like to know if this is normal for an outboard motor.

My motor did leak around the quick disconnect before I put an O ring in place, the old one had dissolved.
