I have a 1992 Johnson 115, VRO disconnected and it runs great. Except that when i idle it in the driveway for a few minutes and then shut off the engine, i get a fuel/oil slick down the side of the motor. with the spiderweb of parts around the carbs i cant tell where it is coming from but it is from the front (top) of the cylinders around the carbs, not from the block. it runs great on the water and i dont get the leak after running it hard on the water, just when it is run in the driveway for a few minutes. thanks

Re: Fuel Leak

This will require a helper perhaps, but with the the tilted-down as if to run, get somebody to pump the primer until firm (don't force it),as you watch the carbs..Look for a hole on the side or front of one of the carbs to be emitting gas. This would indicate a stuck float needle, misadjustment of the float,or the float has taken-on fuel and sunk.<br />If you see no leak, I'll bet what you are seeing is completely normal, and caused by tilting-up a motor with carbs full of fuel.

Re: Fuel Leak

this occurs when the motor is down and all seems well with the carbs and fuel line. what seals are at the bottom of the motor towards the gearcase and are there any indications of a leak there that would be easily accessible?
