I have a 2002 25hp Johnson and every time I tilt the engine gas spills out of the throat of the carb. It leaves a small puddle of gas inside the hood after every tilt. Is this normal?

No! sounds like the float may be set a little to high. This is not uncommon when the engine is tilted up when trailering, but should not leak when tilted up when fishing, or beaching.

Some models have a hose at the bottom of the air box to the manifold to fix this problem. It's called a reclaim system.

Re: Fuel leaking out of Carb when tilted

I have a 1990 30 hp Johnson, bought in 2001. I spoke with OMC (Bombardier) tech support and they told me this was normal for my engine. I didn't want to hear that answer. Sure wish there was a fix for this. Don't know if it's the float level, because I rebuilt my carb and set the float a little lower, but that didn't seem to help. I'm gonna keep watching this thread to see if anybody else has any ideas.

I've had the carb apart on my engine a the float level is fine. Had the engine in for service and they seem to think it is normal too.

Unplug your fuel hose before tilting and spilling will be minimal. When left connected in the sun pressure will build and make a mess.
