i took my 1968 3.9hp merc out on the water for the first time after rebuilding LU. It starts and runs great in the bucket and on boat, but when I hit shallow spots on the river I had to tilt it up a little. When it was tilted fuel ran out of the carb?not a stream, but not drops either, although it continued to run fine. Is this something that needs repair?

Re: Fuel leaking out of carb while running

Any fuel leak is an indication of a needed repair. If the bowl on the carb is leaking when tilted then the bowl gasket may be bad or the float may be high, letting fuel leak out of the card when tilted. Either way, fuel laying around is bad. One, it stinks, it makes a mess and it looks bad. Two, it is a fire hazard and can cause you to have a very bad day.
Check all the fittings on the carb and make sure everything is as it should be. I wouldn't ignore a fuel leak- nothing good can come of that.
