Hello all - I have an older Chrysler Tote tank I picked up (Spotless inside) and then got a new Chrysler/Force connector to connect the hose. Its not locking down, or making actual "throughput" connection when seated as fa as it will go.

The tank fitting has a right angle connection, and there is an O ring at the base that seems to belong there based on research.

Is there a connector available for this tank that works? I read hat there are many similar but incompatible fittings....

Post a pic of what you have so others can advise on the possible fix

The aftermarket connectors won't usually work unless you buy both the male and female.
If you buy the factory replacements they should work.
I'd take the OEM off and junk it and replace with OMC, Mercury or Yamaha, buy both, M@F
They seem to last longer.
The cheapo stuff is just that, CHEAP JUNK!!

Spend the $ and buy from a dealer.

I use a hose barb on the tank and just keep the hose on the tank.
One less part to go bad.

After 3 or 5 posts you can add pics.

I considered a barb but I really want this portable and using the quick connect. I'm using it as reserve tank for my Samurai, and it will get connected to an electric fuel pup to dump the 6 gallons into the main 10 gallon tank. That makes 60% more range and more than double with 2 tanks...

Happy to get the OEM part, but where?

Is there a seal inside the female fitting? there should be. I have that same tank, but it was converted long ago to a barb fitting. On that note, any fitting that fits on the tank will be fine, I had to get rid of a leaking fitting on my other tank, for a mercury outboard, I used a evinrude fitting at the tank, and the original mercury fitting at the motor. The tank don't care what fitting it has.

Keep in mind, this is not Mercury, OMB or Evenrude. it's Chrysler.

Both ends have seals to seal the tank or the line. The tank fitting is a spring loaded ball bearing, and the line has a movable post that opens the ball, and is also spring loaded and the ball's pressure opens it. I assume they equalize and balance, so the springs must be equal.

The real issue is the three locking balls on the line coupler do not engage the groove on the tank fitting which is why the coupler is being held open.

There is also minimal throughput blowigtn through them when "connected", so these are not mating parts in two ways...

One of the seals is the o-ring at the base of the tank fitting. it seems to fit the coupler just fine.

I get that, I was simply stating, if you can't get the correct Chrysler fittings, simply put something on there that will work properly. Maby check with your local marina, I know we can get any fitting you need, and they work. Big box stores have generic fittings.

OK this is getting irritating:

the OEM p/n is F197787-3 (discontinued)
the replacement is F177787Q3 (Mercury Marine) per Marineengines.com
the seasense part I bought says the OEM equivelent, is F197787-3 -WRONG!
there is also an other MM part F197787T3 (comes with a clamp, probably the same connector)
and Sierra has a 18-8062 - Fitting, F197787-3

So technically, the connector I bought SHOULD fit, but does not...

Anyone actually successfully replaced the hose connector on a Chrysler, Tote Tank?

Well, I did on the motor end. It's the same as the tank fitting. But that was 10 years ago, maby the quality went downhill.
On the tank end I replaced both the male and female as a set, with Evinrude fittings.

The tank is Chrysler/Force.
The threads on the tank are universal.
Any set of connectors you buy will fit.
Buying OEM if possible.
Or go to WallyWorld and get them there.

The tank fitting should be a male :
This part doesn't usually go bad.
Used on e-bay $19. Hose female fitting:
The rubber seal in this does go bad.
They sell the seals for this.
You might be able to get them here.
E-bay as low as $8 for new coupler.

There is nothing wrong with the tank fitting.

I already bought a female connector, that is supposed to be the direct replacement for the hose end. It DOES NOT FIT. Specifically it does not lock, or actually flow any appreciable volume -2 strikes...

Why would I assume another would, since apparently they don't know how to make equivalent parts?

WHY would I replace the tank fitting since it is:
  • in perfect condition
  • Is right angle - something none of the other new connectors are
  • HAS the internal hose part, - Also something I don't see on any of the other available parts. (I assume these are for the motor not the tank)
So getting a used tank connector on Eprey does not gain me anything.

I done see ANY "matching pairs" other than for the engine end...

The question is pretty simple: has anyone bought a female connector that FITS the Chrysler tote tank connector? If so, who made it?

He doesn't want to use anything but Chrysler.

E-bay "CHRYSLER OUTBOARD FUEL TANK CONNECTORS"
The second shw a M@F end.

Suzuki used the same style connectors but they only looked like the Chrysler ones.

I know this is an old thread but I just went thru this exact problem so I thought I'd share to help the next searcher.
I found my aftermarket-but-high-quality female connector has TWO problems working with the male half.
1 - the fitting doesn't quite go on far enough to lock on the groove. Solution was to sand the face of the F fitting about 1mm, stopping about a whisker away from the retaining ring that keeps the collar on. I went a little further and put a small chamfer on the inner edge (like original) so it lets the O-ring on the outside of the male fitting slide in easier. Did this with a countersink in a hand-held drill.
2 - once mated no gas flows. The problem here is there is a spring-loaded poppet valve inside each half of the connector. The OEM male half is a very light spring, the newer replacement female connector has a Kong spring they probably have to use for EPA compliance but it won't open when the soft other spring mashes in. The solution is to remove the poppet & spring by prying the O-ring out with a tiny jeweler's screwdriver, then clip ⅓ off the length and reassemble. This turns the female valve from Kong into Kitty. Now when mated I can blow through the connector.

Yes it's a PITA to have to do this but it's quicker & cheaper than driving all over town trying to find a mating connector that fits right AND actually opens to allow gas to flow.
