First the technical stuff;
89 Mercury 35hp serial # ob393755
Today I replaced my carb gasket to hopefuly fix a fast idle problem I've been having. While doing this job I noticed the fuel filter had some black gunk in it, so I replaced it as well. When I finished I cut open the old filter and the black gunk appears to be rubbery fuel line particals. Will the fuel lines decay in this way? When I bought the engine it had been setting for a while and I had the whole old gas thing to deal with but it's been running pretty good since I got it going. I'll get new fuel line Monday anyway. I gotta keep the old Merc happy.

Re: Fuel line decay?

Yes fuel line will decay this way. Be sure to replace all of them from tank to carb
