I have an 88 johnson 20hp in a 10ft tunnel hull speed boat kinda like the cougar cub. I just replaced my 3 gallon fuel tank for a 6 gallon and the connector squirts fuel if its barely moves. The connectors are new from walmart and are the johnson ones. Anyone have any idea what I should do to stop that leak??

Go to a good shop or dealer and buy some quality parts. You think Wally World got it's reputation for selling quality goods?
I see Wally World parts fail sometimes the day they are bought.

Make sure the o-rings inside the connectors are there and not cut. They are replaceable.

I did a overhaul on a V-4 with damaged piston caused by cheap fittings. When engaged, the fitting sits too far out of the engine connector. If you push inward, you'll likely see it will move in 1/8" or so. The spring loaded clip is too long allowing the excessive play and leaks.....Go OMC

Cheers....:)

Whatever, if walmart has something I need I'm getting it from there. Only difference is you'll pay higher for the same product at some specialty store. Usually, if it's a part where the brand really matters, walmart doesn't carry it anyway. Just take back the fuel hose and get another one, it's probably just a defected one.

Bull. I heartily disagree. With something as important as a fuel fitting, I'm not cutting corners. If you look at the OMC fuel fittings, they're actually rebuildable. Wal-mart sells "Sea-Sense" or "Attwood" brands and I've had NOTHING but trouble. I discarded a couple brand new ones that were just junk in favor of putting new o-rings in an OMC fitting that was 20 years old.

No matter how new it is, if it's spewing fuel then it's faulty and needs replacing.

The attwood brass fittings have worked for me, but I highly recommend name brand fuel line/connectors and primer bulbs. The aftermarket brands lack durability, in my experience.

I have trouble something like that on my 6 gal plastic tank the has a verticle tank adaptor, my plastic OMC tank has a horizontal adapter and never have troubles and with the same hose too, go figure. The cheapie atwood vertical adaptor tank has a rubberband on the fitting that I just pull over the hose fitting after it's snapped on there, I think it's the way the hose hangs and sorta pulls downward, is your's a verticle fitting on the tank?
