Fuel line question

I have a simple question that I'm sure has been answered more than one in the past but I couldn't find the answer using the search feature.
Why do outboards always use black rubber fuel line and is there a good reason not to use the transparent plastic line used on other power sports motors like snowmobiles and dirt bikes?
I'm referring to the sections of fuel line under the hood, not the one going from the tank to the motor.

Maybe you like that plastic line, but I don't. Well nevermind that, I believe the rubber is longer lived and more reliable. Besides the plastic just isn't "right" and suggests some amateur has been working on it. When I put a motor back together, it is like the factory designed it. Just my opinion.

being an amateur, ive used the ethanol resistant silicone line purchased from a snowmobile place, it does the job just fine on the pressurized bits but.it aint much good on the suction side of the pump as that type of line has thin walls and will collapse, its also not nearly as rugged when it comes to chaffing due to vibration. jmo
