Can I replace the fuel line (from pump to carb) with anything other than OEM line?

Mine is very hard and brittle and it looks to be leaking. Can I just use regular automotive style fuel line?

If not, is there a part number that anyone can give me for a 3.0 merc?

It must be marine rated fuel line. You can buy it by the foot at any marine dealer. West Marine or Bass Pro has it too...

No Coast Guard regulations require a hard or braided fuel line, typical automotive will not work.

Re: Fuel line replacement??

Really any fuel line will work, but on a boat it MUST be MARINE RATED. There are required specs that the fuel line must meet in order for it to be used in a boat. Look at your old fuel line, there should be some USCG specs. For the extra couple of $$ that it costs to buy marine rated, isn't it worth it?? If you use automotive and something happens, it will cost you way more than a couple of $$.

Have a great day,

Rob.

Re: Fuel line replacement??

If you look at any OEM line between the carb and the fuel pump, you will find they are steel tubing, NOT hose. Hose can be used, but you also need specific types of barb fittings for the carb and fuel pump. Those pushon type hose connections you find at most auto parts stores with the very deep, sharp barbs are NOT to be used. You need the type A1 fuel hose (3/8" min ID) and the mini hose clamps (1/4" wide, not the 1/2" wide clamps, they cause leaks).
The marine rating is so the hose passes a fire test, not rather it leaks or not, or the burst pressure. It has everything to do with fire ratings.
