I am going to replace my 1985 225D (?) / 280 single prop outdrive with a 2000 5.0Gi/duoprop outdrive. I am also changing the fuel tank in the boat and someone told me the 5.0Gi might require a return line to the fuel tank. Can someone confirm if this is the case - if so I will need to include the return line port to the new fuel tank. Thanks in advance for your help.

Cannot say with 100 percent accuracy but have not heard of any marine gas engines which have a return line for gas engines from the factory. The diesel engines mush have one but gas does not. Only ones which do have a gas return line are custom engines or those modified by individuals.

Since your going to get a new tank, have one added. My Formula tank is designed for gas or diesel so it has a return but its plugged. So have one installed and if it does come with a return your fine. On the other hand many boats have suffered from vapor lock in the summer months, so having a return to tank line stops the vapor lock issue, if it comes up in the future.

and :welcome: to iboats

Ayuh,..... Welcome Aboard CB,..... I agree with AllDodge, the marine Efi's use motor mounted fuel plumbin' to get away from the fuel return line,....
