Help! Have serious fuel problem in a 1994 15hp Gamefisher that no one seems to know how to repair. No luck with Sears or local repair who are not interested in even trying to repair"get rid of it" is the last suggestion. Was properly stored for 2 yrs and now floods out the throat and also into the powerhead..locking it up. Have to pull plugs to drain. The float and needle does shut it off..gas and air test shuts off completely..primer bulb check valve working. Mechanic advised that an internal rubber seal in the base of the inlet elbow is deteriorated and no fixing the problem. Also states that it is mfg by Chrysler..left over parts from Force..incorporated into a Merc..and sold by Sears. Total freshwater use on this engine is 25 hours. Carbs are still available thru Sears at 127.00+..but it may be in the pump. Could it be the fault of the main nozzle? and can anyone identify the real mfr from these numbers? Model #225.581506..ser # oeo74681..Tillotson carb # 715061-1 and F01b407. All help appreciated..wife wants me to clear the dining room table asap. VeeJay

Re: fuel overload

When you removed the fuel bowl...were there 2 fiber washers? They should be red. One goes on the outside of the fuel bowl...one goes on the opposite side. If the inner one is gone..gas will just flood though the main jet.

TMD

Re: fuel overload

for TMD...thanks for a quick response. Both inner and outer gaskets intact. Searching for clues in the parts manual as to the "recirculating fuel mixture"..shows a stop and reed along with the diaphrams in the pump...will go deeper..trial & error. Made 7 calls today to all known outboard repair servicemen in this area...and all replied with same story.."don't work on that model of outboard"..get a Merk,Evin, or John ! Can you believe this? Naturecoast..7 rivers and 25 lakes in Citrus county..and no one has the ability to repair a fuel problem in a dinky 15HP Gamefisher!!! VeeJay

Re: fuel overload

Can you see exactly where the fuel is comming out?

Can you remove the carb and look for a broken reed?

TMD

Re: fuel overload

I read your post i am having a hard time believing your needle and seat are actually shutting off your incoming fuel. Tilt the motor up in about the fourth pin hole this will let fuel come out of the front of the carburetor. hook up your fuel line and pump the primer bulb up until it is completely firm watch your carburetor and see if you can see any fuel coming out of it. the only other thing that i could think of would be a torn diaphram. thanks, bret forceparts@yahoo.com

Re: fuel overload

There is one other thing it could be.TMD mentioned it in another post. A sunken or sticking float. Unlikely but possible. A bad needle and seat is more likely.

Re: fuel overload

Question for force01 and jimd. If the fuel pump diaphragm was bad , wouldn't the reeds prevent the fuel from getting back to the carb?

Re: fuel overload

Scotiany,
yes you are correct a torn diaphram would not necessarily let fuel back into the caruretors because the reed valve would stop it. I am not concerned about a little bit of fuel out of the mouth of the carburetor thats normal but to dump enough fuel into the block to cause the piston to hydrolock makes me think even more now than before his problem may lie with a torn diaphram because this would dump raw fuel right into his crank case. thanks, bret forceparts @yahoo.com [ ;)

Re: fuel overload

force 01, reread the post more carefully and I see what you mean. Gotta admit , haven't heard this problem before.

Re: fuel overload

VeeJay...original manufacturer of your engine is Mercury/Force.

I see nobody has answered that for you.

TMD

Re: fuel overload

To Force01...I dismantled the fuel pump..looks like diaphragm gasket warped and metal reeds don't seem to open and close with air press test. Also ordered valve & screen for the recirculating system..that may also be the culprit. Will have to wait 14 days for factory delivery and to clear the dining room table. Read your posts and guessed at the same conclusion. Thanks.. VeeJay
