The other day while out on the water, my 1986 Merc inline 6 started running lean toward the end of my day of fishing. This was no problem really, since I was done for the day. When I got home, I removed the fuel pickup and found a large chunk of that gasket maker material clogging up the screen in the pickup tube. I removed the chunk but found that the pickup tube was loose from the fitting. I figured that I would replace the part just to be safe.

I cleaned out the gas tank and removed all the nasty gas from the bottom. I rinsed it out with 87 octane and drained it to get as much junk as possible. I have the tank reinstalled now, but I have the following issues:

1) Where can I get a replacement gasket for the sending unit? It is a circular gasket, and is in poor condition. The previous owner had used that gasket sealer stuff on it, which is probably where the junk in the tank came from. The gasket is the standard circular type with five holes.

2) How do I measure the pickup tube? If measured just the plastic portion and the threaded part of the fitting it is 12" long. However, if I include the portion of the fitting that sits above the gas tank, it is 13". So, what length pickup tube do I need 12 or 13? Also, how do I tell what size the fitting is?

3) On the Anti-Siphon Valve, how do you tell the size so I order the right one?

Thanks!!!
