I'm checking a few things related to an intermittent partial power loss I have, before we go out again.

I dumped out the fuel-water separator and what came out was about 20% rusty water. When I last changed it out, I think the old one was full of gas.

The anti-siphon looks Ok to me, and I can pull air through it or push it through with my mouth only (am not gonna bust a vessel trying to actually blow through it). It sort of vibrates when air is going through. Sound normal?

I can see the screen in the pickup tube but can't see light coming through all parts of it; I didn't take off the elbow on top though, so... I can blow freely through it in either direction though.

Thoughts on any of that? The only other thing I'm gonna try to do is file the points lightly, but I don't think that'd cause an intermittent prob.

The boat was able to hit it's top speed last time we were out (only been able to go twice this year so far), but it didn't run 100% perfectly for the whole trip.

What's the suggested sealant for putting the fittings back together? The liquid Permatex Aviation stuff the the drive gasket is sealed up with? I haven't looked into that too deeply. The Anti-siphon had white crud on it under the hose. Looked like the stuff that was clogging up some pilot jets and otherwise in the carbs on the last bike I had before I went through them.

The suction tube un screws from the elbow. Those filters in that tube are real trouble makers. Punch it out and pitch it.

Ok. I can see a bubble of water down in the tank too; maybe a couple of inch diameter. Maybe the gas cap seal's not.

You should be running a 10 micron filter which should be changed at least annually. Literally seen filters rust thru from the inside out do to lack of maintenance.

Anti-siphon is a one way vacuum valve. Should not be able to blow through it. Suck in one direction only.

Seeing that your running an outboard, the best advise is to remove and throw it as far as you can.

I would think as Kenny mentioned get rid of the in tube screen, get the water out of the tank, change your filters regularly/until it stays with no water, service the points, but you probably also need to clean the carb. Willing to bet there is crud in there

I was thinking the rust probably or at least mighta come from the filter itself. I've only changed that once, and I've had the boat 3 years.

I'll get one of those coming, and the valve too. It looks clean inside on either end, but I guess that doesn't tell a lot about whether it's more restrictive than it ought to be. I'll take that screen out too, before I seal those parts back up. I got some Permatex fuel resistant gasket stuff at Napa today. Surely that's good for those fittings... ??

The carb. Yeah, been putting off messing with that as long as it's running acceptably, but I expect it's coming off sooner or later. I mean what it's doing some now is not acceptable, but since it's intermittent, I'm looking elsewhere first.
